SELECTMEN’S MEETING
August 17, 2023

Opened the meeting and declared a quorum present. Selectmen present: Ben Astbury, Susan Ford, Colby Pert. Also present: Clerk/treasurer Cindy Reilly, CEO Duane Ford, Fire Chief David Carter, Assistant Barbara Grindle, ACO Daniel McKay, Greg Phillips (Robin Colburn).
There being no errors or omissions in the minutes of the last meeting, moved, seconded and voted to accept them as written.
Reviewed and signed the treasurer’s warrant for $78639.73: education $74,368.17; sludge $60; administration $100.40; town office $130; clearing $3,581.16; roads $400.
CEO REPORT: Contractor called about a demo and rebuild of a property on the No. Sedgwick Road, will view project when they are ready to start; also talked with him regarding a property at Black Pond where the owner wants to put in a 40’ bridge, this project is inactive at this time; Inspected an addition and new plumbing on a Main Street property; Checked a property at Walker Pond for site clearing and new construction, so far everything is ok; Tree planting at Darrell Brown’s on Walker Pond is putting in some very small trees, will discuss with him; A member of the Planning Board checked the DEP situation with the state-they are understaffed by about 140 positions; Will check with town attorney regarding a property on Black’s Pond that has major violations, not only with the town but also with DEP.
FIRE CHIEF REPORT: Finished the basic firefighter course for the area, 18 graduates and an increase of 5 firefighters. Looking for a used fire fighting truck to replace the one that we have. Going to New York to look at one that seems good. The annual car show went well with about 100 cars showing in spite of the rain.
DISCUSSION and/or ACTION ITEMS: 1) New County ACO – Met the new ACO that will be working county-wide. Daniel McKay (207)460-0623 hancockaco@hancockcountymaine.com.
2) Auditing Discussion – Astbury will get a time for Jim Wadman to come and visit with us to see if we can avoid the problems encountered last year.
3) Office Hours – With the Labor Day holiday coming up, office hours will be changed to being open Friday so that motor vehicle registrations may be made. The office will be closed Monday 9/4 Labor Day. Hours for the next two week will be: the week of 8/21 – Monday 8-3, Tuesday 12-7, Wednesday 9-3. The week of 8/28: Monday 8-3, Wednesday 9-3, Friday 11-6.
UNRESOLVED BUSINESS: a) Discussed the sale of Map 5, Lot 51 regarding the new state statues. His bid has been accepted, and the paperwork will be done as soon as the state finished the paperwork. The same will be the process with the sale of Map 6, lot 76. b) Received a copy of the insurance for the Library to use the Town House for the Paul Sullivan Concert if it rains. c) Copies of the grant papers were received electronically from Allen Kratz and signed by the select board. d) Discussion on replacement of old copier, Ford will check on prices of new ones. e) New google email should be starting soon . Compusult will set it up.
