TOWN OF SEDGWICK

SELECTMEN’S MEETING

November 19, 2015

 

Opened the meeting and established a quorum present.  Selectmen present:  Ben Astbury, Neil Davis, Nelson Grindal.  Also present:  Bob Comerford, Jim Carey, Robert Jones, Bob Publicover, Tax Collector Belinda Rooney, Clerk/treasurer Cindy Reilly, CEO Duane Ford, Assistant Barbara Grindle.

 

Read and approved the minutes of the last meeting.

 

Reviewed and signed the treasurer’s warrant for $9,959.05; $301.70 for a motion light on the handicap deck, $900 for sludge cleanup, electricity bills for the town office, town house, streetlights and fire department $409.83, general assistance $1,646, and plow steel for the snow plows $2,191.56.

 

Tax Collector had a request for Caterpillar Hill Initiative for tax exempt status and a homestead exemption request, both put in assessors basket.  Clerk had the warrant articles for the special town meeting for selectmen’s approval and signatures.

 

OLD BUSINESS:  Town Dock grant:  need to vote to accept the grant funds. After brief discussion, moved, seconded and voted 3-0 to accept the warrant articles as written. Signed the warrant for the special town meeting on December 3, 2015, 7 pm at the town office.

CEO updated the board on his meeting with John James of the DEP.  Jones approved the cleanup of the landfill site and will write a letter of approval.

Comerford and Carey read a letter from DHHS, saying that the Strong Brewery’s septic system  must be tested before their license can be renewed next year.   If the town cannot get a state licensed LPI to do the testing, Mr. Wood and a state engineer will do it themselves.

 

NEW BUSINESS:  Moved, seconded and voted 3-0 to have the assistant purchase a recorder for use as the ‘official record’ of selectmen meetings and for assistant’s reference when question of confirmation needs to be made for the written minutes.

Advertising has gone out statewide for applications for a TPI (temporary plumbing inspector) or an LPI (local plumbing inspector).   Assistant will place ad in MMA classifieds. Prospective applicants should call Selectman Davis at 359-2144 or 359-2750.

Will probably need a contract for Andrew McCullough to complete the drawings for the town dock.  Davis to confirm with Jenn Paul.

 

CEO REPORT:  Spoke with Mark Stubbins about erosion control at the Gaylor Sanborn gravel pit.    Still taking classes, attending meetings, and keeping abreast of the changes to statutes and laws, especially Shoreland Zoning.

 

ADJOURN:  There being no further business, it was moved and seconded to adjourn, vote was 2-0-1 (Grindal abstained).  The meeting was adjourned at 7 pm.
