SELECTMEN’S MEETING (Draft Minutes)

October 29, 2020

 

Opened the meeting and declared a quorum present.  Selectmen present:  Ben Astbury, (by phone Bob Publicover, Michael Sheaham).  Also present:  CEO Duane Ford, Clerk/treasurer Cindy Reilly, Assistant Barbara Grindle (by phone Jeffrey Roth, Jerry Wetterskog).

 

There being no errors or omissions in the records of the last meeting, moved, seconded and roll call voted 3-0 to accept them as written.

 

Reviewed and signed the treasurer’s warrant for $151,361.22; education $140,334.94, fees $136, clearing/mv $1,069.50, administration $599.82, fire protection $305, general assistance $1,400, property tax overpay $7,379.35, animal control $74.11, plumbing 62.50.

 

CEO REPORT:  Discussing fire department and DEP live fire training with fire chief, the fire marshal’s office is working with the DEP; a question from a taxpayer about which trees can be cut in the shoreland zone on her property; a contractor repairing a wharf seems to have replaced it nearly new and DEP should be notified; property owner on Black’s Pond may need to go to the Planning Board because of the location of new structure on the Pond; keeping an eye out for new and redo work for the assessor’s agent to check in the spring; doing paperwork on No. Sedgwick and Reach Road properties, set deadline for junkyard fence on property on the Ridge Road.

 

DISCUSSION ITEMS:  1)  Superintendent’ Report Update – Superintendent emailed a report to the selectboard, gave a very encouraging report on the finances and on the school in general.  Reported that the beginning of the school year couldn’t have gone better; the kids are wearing masks and the parents have been wonderful and everyone is pulling together.  On October 13 there were 78 students enrolled, more home schooled students than last year.

2)  Election Logistics – Polls will be open from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. at the Ridge Road fire station.  Selectman Publicover will be a ballot clerk, selectman Sheahan will be on door duty, selectman Astbury will be in and out so they can monitor any problems that may arise.

3)  Any Unresolved Business – Broadband grant – will be having meetings to discuss at the Library.  GWI hasn’t heard anything yet.

Conference phone ordered, expected by Oct. 31.

3-town transfer station committee to invited to the Blue Hill/Surry Transfer Station committee at their regular monthly meeting

Sandpit light not working, Astbury will check the meter and see if it is lit at night.

 

ADJOURN:  There being no further business, moved, seconded and roll call voted 3-0 to adjourn the meeting at 7:06 p.m.
