TOWN OF SEDGWICK

SELECTMEN’S MEETING

December 23, 2014

 

Opened the meeting and declared a quorum present.  Selectmen present:  Neil Davis, Nelson Grindal, Victor Smith.  Also present:  Fire Chief David Carter, Road Commissioner Paul Carter, Tax Collector Pat Gross, CEO Duane Ford, Assistant Barbara Grindle, Robert Jones.

 

Read and approved the minutes of the last meeting.

 

Signed the treasurer’s warrant for $99,166.98.  School payroll was $72,657.81, Snow contractors Carter, $10,000 and Webb $13,230, and abatements totaling $1,414.52 accounted for most of the warrant.

 

OLD BUSINESS:  The changes to the Harbor Ordinance are ready for Maine Municipal to approved wording for the annual town report.

Grindal talked with forest warden John Cousins about the tree cutting on the lot adjacent to the old landfill.  The trucking is damaging the top of the landfill since the ground isn’t frozen.  He then called the owner of the property and the CEO will be consulted about the work being done there.  State requirements regarding the covering of the landfill must be adhered to.  Assistant to find the contract between the state and the town.

 

NEW BUSINESS:  Chief Carter reported that the repeater on the Ridge Road cell tower is up and working.  They have not received a bill for the connecting, but expect it to be about $14,000.  There are only two companies in the state that climb these towers.

Road Commissioner concerned about the town road and the large logging operation on the old landfill site.  Will be keeping an eye on the road and will post it if necessary to avoid damage to the road.

 

CEO REPORT:  Still trying to contact owners of a camper that needs to be moved on the shoreland of the Salt Pond.

Resear4ching building permits and fees related to them from other towns.

Should get moving on the state’s shoreland zoning changing.  Assistant to get copies of the draft to the Planning Board.

 

PUBLIC COMMENT:  Jones asked if the public meeting regarding the Caterpillar Hill Initiative has been published.  Will be published in the Ellsworth American in the December 31 issue.  The planning board will meet on January 13, 2015.

 

ADJOURN:  There being no further business, it was moved, seconded and voted 3-0 to adjourn at 7:10 pm.
