Union 76 Spelling Bee The School Union 76 Spelling Bee will be held at the Brooklin School on Monday, February 4 at 6:00 p.m. Congratulations to Eliza Herrick who spelled the word ‘typhoon’ correctly to win first place. She will be joined by runner up winner, Tyler O’Grady and Henry Bowden, who is the alternate. They will compete against six other spellers from Brooklin and Deer Isle-Stonington ElementarySchool. We would also like to recognize Crystal Bessey, Maggie Bunt, Bradin Cote, Hayden Torrey, and Sydnie Norris for taking part in the Sedgwick School spelling bee. Parent /Teacher Conferences There are a number of parents who have still not contacted teachers or returned phone calls from teachers to set up conferences. It is important for parents to be in touch with teachers to find out where their children stand academically and socially now that we are halfway through the school year. If you have not already arranged for a conference with your child’s teacher, please do so today. B Boy’s Team Basketball Season Completed The B Boy’s team completed its season on Tuesday. These youngsters had an excellent season and a great deal of thanks should go to Coach Brian Duddy and his wife Maria. Coach Duddy has done a superior job with our youngest players. 2007-08 School Yearbook Yearbooks will go on sale startingnext week. Sale flyer/collectionenvelopes will be sent home in your child’s communication folder next Thursday. The 2007-08 yearbook will cost $7.00 each. (This is a savings of $5.00 over last year’s cost!) If you have pictures you would like to see in the yearbook, send them into the school in an envelope with Jennifer Gray’s name on it. If you have pictures in digital format, Jennifer will print them out for you. All pictures need to be in by February 29. Players must have a parent’swritten permission to stay forafter school basketball practices. Parents of students in grades six through eight were notified by mail that Sedgwick Elementary School will be part of the MYDAUS this year. Data collected on Maine students is used to judge the level of drug and alcohol use statewide and the efficacy of programs to helpstudents avoid their use. We are required to administer the MYDAUS because we receive grants for improving student health. This is a totally anonymous and voluntary survey and students may choose to NOT take part in any or all of the survey. If you do not wish your child to participate, pleasecontact Mrs. Grindle at 359-5002 no later than Monday, February 4. It will be administered to students next week. A copy of the survey isavailable in Mrs. Grindle’s office for review Sign In Procedure Parents who drop off children to school late need to remember to sign them in at the office.
