Sedgwick Elementary School Newsletter September 8, 2011 Welcome Back School began on Tuesday. We welcome the following new students: Kindergarten -Caden Clarke, Rylee Dorr, Thomas Fowler, Aidan Gillen, Damon, Gillen, Jordan Gove, Hazel Sheahan, Eve Skoletsky, and Aiden Sullivan. In grade 1, Damien Brown and in grade 6 Olivia Brown. We welcome new staff members Jennifer Gray, who will be a part-time Ed Tech III helping in grades 3-8 and Hector Sapien, who will be our special education counselor one day a week. Please make them and their families welcome in our community. NECAP Testing NECAP Testing begins in three weeks. Teachers are already planning their schedules for the testing and will be sending out the days they will be administering the tests. Please check your own calendars for any conflicts and change them if they interfere with the testing schedules. PLEASE AVOID ABSENCES DURING THE TESTING PERIOD. Saxon Math This year all students will be working in the same math program: Saxon Math. This program features a very straightforward approach to the instruction of math. Parents should see homework sheets coming home from teachers soon. Please review the sheets carefully and make sure your child turns them back into school. Parents & Students YOU are invited to a BACK TO SCHOOL OPEN HOUSE Monday, September 12 5:00 p.m. BOUNCE HOUSE & ICE CREAM SUNDAES This is a great way to meet others in our school community! Grandparents Luncheon The first Grandparents’ Luncheon of the school year will be held next Wednesday, Sept. 14 at 11:45 in the gym. Grandparents of grades 7 and 8 students have been invited. School Photos On Monday, September 19, Kelly Saunders of Bagaduce Photo will be at the school to take your child’s picture. Kelly is a local photographer who is doing our school photography for the first time. Information, including a prepayment envelope, has been sent in your child’s communicator today. The envelope must be returned by picture day. Gr. 1-4 Game Night The ever popular game night will be held for students in grades 1-4 tomorrow, September 9 from 3:00-4:00 PM. A permission slip was sent home with your child on Tuesday. Game night is a free play and fun time supervised by the principal. Parent involvement is helpful so if you are available, you are most welcome to attend. There will be another game night scheduled for older kids soon. Innisbrook Wrapping Paper Sale The PTF is looking for an individual to organize the school’s annual Innisbrook wrapping paper fund raiser. This is a major fund raiser for the PTF. The proceeds sponsor many events. Please contact the school if you can help out. Grades 5-8 Soccer The school’s soccer program began on Wednesday this week with coaches Lisa and Steve Theoharidis. A practice and game schedule will be available at the practice on Friday, September 9. The Soccer FUN-0-RAMA will be hosted by Castine at the MMA turf field on Saturday, September 17. An informational flyer will be sent home soon. This is a fun, noncompetitive event that includes hot dogs, snacks and drinks provided by the participating teams. Everyone is welcome to attend and cheer on your team!
